Scripture: “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)

As a parent of three adult children who live away from home, I know the challenges of learning to release them to God’s care. While they’re no longer under my roof, my love and concern for them remain strong—and so does the temptation to worry. I often find myself in a place of overcare, caught between love and a desire to shield them from life’s difficulties.

But God reminds us that our role as parents changes as our children grow. He calls us to set healthy boundaries with them, respecting their independence while trusting that His love is greater than our own. This intentional effort of releasing our anxieties and surrendering their lives to God brings peace and strengthens our bond. Our role now isn’t to control outcomes, but to offer support, prayer, and guidance that reflects God’s faithfulness, not our own fears.

Point to Ponder: “Am I carrying concerns for my children that aren’t fully within my control, and how can I trust God’s hand in their lives more deeply?”

Prayer:

Father, thank You for my precious children and the joy of seeing them grow into adulthood. Help me recognize when my care becomes overcare, and teach me to release my anxieties to You. Show me how to build loving boundaries that reflect respect for their independence while trusting that Your plans for them are good. Help me to walk in peace, knowing that You are their protector, guide, and provider. In Jesus name. Amen.

Faith in Action:

This week, make an intentional effort to pause and release each worry to God as it comes. When you feel a strong urge to take control, take a deep breath and lift up a prayer instead. Entrust each concern to God, speaking His blessing over your children’s lives. Remind yourself: even when it’s just you, you are never alone in caring for them—God is always with you, loving them and guiding their steps.
