Guarding the Garden of Your Child’s Heart

parenting Sep 12, 2025

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” – Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)

Jim Rohn wisely said, “Every garden will be invaded.” Our children’s hearts are like gardens—full of potential, beauty, and fruit. But every garden faces invaders: weeds, storms, and outside forces that threaten its growth. In the same way, our children will face cultural noise, peer pressure, and the enemy’s lies. If we don’t prepare them to defend their faith and values, the world will plant seeds of confusion in their soil.

Preparing them means more than telling them what’s right and wrong. It’s showing them how to think biblically, how to respond with courage and grace, and how to live with conviction even when it’s unpopular. When children know who they are in Christ, they will be rooted and resilient, ready to guard their hearts and stand firm in the truth.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for entrusting us with the sacred responsibility of guiding our children. Strengthen us to sow seeds of truth, water them with love, and shield them with prayer. Help our children to develop deep roots in You so that when their faith is tested, they will stand boldly and not be shaken. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Faith in Action

This week, have one intentional conversation with your child about a cultural issue they might face. Listen to their perspective, then guide them back to Scripture so they learn to anchor their values in God’s Word.
