Purpose in the Pace
Dec 03, 2025
“Every race carries purpose in the process. Paul said he pressed toward the mark—showing us that the journey and the destination both matter to God.”
Philippians 3:13–14
A few days ago, my daughter invited me to run a 5K with her. I loved that moment—mother and daughter stepping into fresh air, new energy, and a shared goal. But somewhere on the course, she found her pace… and I found mine. She crossed the line early and waited fifteen minutes for me in the cold.
And there I was, in that in-between stretch, wrestling with the temptation to speed up so she wouldn’t have to wait.
Instead, I heard that gentle whisper of grace-driven rhythm.
A quiet reminder to slow down, breathe, and be present.
I began to look around. The lake shimmered. The trees wrapped the path like a warm embrace. Families walked together. Couples encouraged each other at different speeds. It was beautiful.
And in that moment, I sensed the Lord reminding me:
We each have our own journey. We each have our own pace. Finishing matters—but so does the formation happening along the way.
So I kept walking. I snapped pictures. I absorbed the scenery. I let peace guide my steps. And in the end?
We all finished.
Different speeds. Different stories. Same grace.
Prayer
Father, thank You for the journeys You’ve placed before us. Teach us to honor the pace You’ve designed for our lives. Help us celebrate the progress of others without rushing our own steps. When we’re tempted to hurry, let Your gentle whisper realign us with Your grace-driven rhythm. Open our eyes to the beauty around us, the lessons along the way, and the purpose You are shaping within us. Strengthen us to finish well, with joy, peace, and gratitude in every stride.
In Jesus name, Amen.
Faith in Action
- Honor your pace today without apology.
- Notice one area where you feel pressured to “hurry” and release it to God.
- Speak this aloud: “God’s grace leads my rhythm.”
- Celebrate someone else’s pace without comparison.
- Look for one “scenery moment” God places in your path today.
