When the Children Are Listening
Sep 15, 2025
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” — 1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV)
Many parents weren’t even aware of Charlie Kirk, but their children were. That alone speaks volumes. Whether or not their parents were listening, this generation was. He became a solid voice and example to them—whether they were a fan or not.
I have personally enjoyed learning more and hearing the discussions of my own children regarding this brave soul. To see this generation rush to debate him or ask questions was delightful—it reminded me that influence is alive and active, stirring thought, curiosity, and even conviction. Their conversations remind me that influence does not always flow downward; sometimes God stirs up the younger generation to lead, and it’s our honor to listen.
As caregivers, this is a wake-up call. Our children are always listening to someone. The question is: Whose voices are shaping them when ours go silent? While we may debate delivery, they are paying attention to boldness, conviction, and courage. We must not miss the urgency of preparing them—not only to discern voices, but to lift their own when the time comes.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the reminder that leadership can rise from the most unexpected places. Thank You for the way my children’s voices and conversations open my eyes to what You are doing in their generation. Help me to stay engaged, to listen, and to guide them with wisdom. May I not dismiss what shapes them, but instead use every influence as an opportunity to point them to You. Amen.
Faith in Action
Ask your child today: “Who are you listening to, and what about them inspires you?” Let the discussion unfold naturally. Affirm what is good, gently challenge what is not, and above all, use it as a doorway to strengthen connection and faith.
